Root Canal Therapy in Phoenix, AZ

The dentist shows the spread of the disease and pulp formation on the table.

Root canal therapy is a specialized dental treatment designed to restore the health and function of a tooth affected by decay or infection. When the nerve tissue inside a tooth becomes damaged or infected, it needs to be carefully removed to prevent further complications. The hollow area, known as the pulp chamber, is then thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

After the removal of the damaged nerve tissue, the pulp chamber is filled with a biocompatible material to seal the space. To protect and strengthen the treated tooth, it is typically restored with a dental crown or filling.

At Biltmore Commons Dental Care, our skilled team provides compassionate and effective root canal therapy to alleviate pain and preserve your natural smile. Schedule your consultation with us today!

When is root canal therapy recommended?

Root canal treatment becomes necessary when the pulp—the soft tissue inside the tooth’s root canals—becomes inflamed or infected. This condition can result from trauma, such as cracks or chips, or from multiple dental procedures on the same tooth. If your dentist suggests a root canal, it means that other treatment options are unlikely to save the tooth.

What does the procedure involve?

Before starting, your dentist will numb the area to ensure your comfort. They will then create a small opening in the tooth to access the pulp chamber and root canals. The infected or damaged pulp is carefully removed, and the canals are cleaned and disinfected. Afterward, the canals are sealed with a flexible material called gutta-percha to prevent further infection. Finally, a temporary filling is placed to protect the tooth until a permanent restoration can be applied.

Is root canal therapy painful?

Most patients experience little to no pain during the procedure thanks to modern anesthesia. Some mild sensitivity or discomfort may occur for a few days afterward, but this typically subsides quickly. Once healed, the treated tooth should feel just like your natural teeth. Following your dentist’s aftercare instructions will help ensure a smooth recovery.

The importance of prevention

Many people delay dental visits due to fear or busy schedules, but postponing regular check-ups and cleanings can lead to more serious problems down the line. Early detection of dental issues helps avoid extensive treatments such as root canals. Staying consistent with your dental care is the best way to protect your oral health and maintain a beautiful smile.
